The SB-600 no longer works for me. I I can turn it on and off, go to the menu to change the settings. The light is fine, ready to use, proportional. There are batteries (just tried a handful of kits). The problem is that it certainly doesn’t shed light on most of them. Neither through the camera flash button, nor through the activation of the DSLR. Restoring factory settings was key. I have deliberately used such units for a long time – I offer them to me in amazement. Is there something I might be missing? Any ideas as to what could be faulty, critical in terms of repair costs? Thanks for your help !

It seems like the minute I made a mistake with all of us. It turned out that an expensive tube had to be replaced. Several years ago I stopped switching to SB600 2x. Not too hard (there are dozens of step-by-step tutorials on the internet), and if I remember correctly, the whole pipe costs less than $ 10.
My SB600 at some pointThe item became very unpredictable and there is a second type of reset that fixed it for me:
“In rare cases, the SB-600 may not perform reliably even with new batteries installed. In this case, replace some of the batteries WHILE THE POWER IS ON. ” (Source, latest post: http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00YDds?start=10).
After that, the dedicated SB600 worked again, but keep in mind that it is still being processed very slowly and it will take us a long time to get started. Now, after not using it for ~ 9 months, you can put it back in new batteries and return to a fulfilling life. Therefore, everything seems necessary to completely erase the load in order to come to life in advance.

Sorry for talking about the basics as it is almost impossible to name an OP flash anywhere in the world. I guess battery orientation is no longer a problem as the flash pops up, but the SB-600 hasbattery orientation strange.
Hopefully the trick Wouter mentioned works. Otherwise, since high voltage circuits have recently appeared in a large electronic lightning, be very careful when disassembling and comparing it, this could potentially lead to an electric shock with potentially catastrophic consequences.

Wouter I did precise troubleshooting on the regular part and saw some unsightly spots and re-insertion when flipping – tried without success. As for your other comment, I’ll let it emit completely (I assume you mean this capacitor?). Do you have any idea how long it will take? I would like to make the spine a reliable operation – intermittent surgery would certainly mean getting rid of the concept / sending it in support of repair.
Shun, battery alignment was not an issue. And thanks for the high voltage signal – I’m embarrassed to start repairs myself.

For any repair that involves disassembling a zipper if you really don’t know what you’re actually doing, IMO says it’s best not to have a qualified technician do the job. I believe our team is talking over $ 100 due to cost and shipping.
Perhaps we will consider the next option to upgrade to the SB-700 type.
By the way, Nikon announced that there will be a new SB-5000 flash and the current D5, but no data. If you’re in no rush, perhaps wait until January / February and then see what Nikon has to announce. Nikon also did not give an announcement in the evening, but I am waiting for an announcement from D5 during this period.
Chris, how long will it take. In the meantime, I mostly bought other flashes, so I didn’t use the SB600 for so long. A special surprise was the fact that it worked normally again, but despite this,I am no longer sure that it will remain reliable enough.
I’m sorry to have the SB700 as an option. It’s much easier to market it – the built-in rebound map is also widely welcomed. I also have Chinese people who can do more for much less money, which might be an option. But the SB700 really never lets go, absolutely, if I had to stick in more than one zipper, it would be this one.
